“I want to tell a story with the painting and achieve a sense of place. There is always an emotional response to the places I am drawn to paint.”

Ann is a professional artist and art tutor living and working in Belfast.
She studied Foundation Art and an honours degree in Landscape Design at Manchester Metropolitan University. This allowed her to combine her passion for art and horticulture. Ann works as a professional artist from her home studio and as an art tutor at Queens University, Belfast.

Her motivation to paint stems from her deep respect for and love of the natural environment. “I want to tell a story with the painting and achieve a sense of place. There is always an emotional response to the places I paint.” Ann is drawn to expansive skies, wide open spaces and the mood created by the weather. More recently her work has focused on native hedgerows, wildflower meadows and the colourful planting in her allotment and garden.

Ann experiments with brush and mark making techniques, building up layers to created depth and atmosphere in her work. Working in acrylic, oils and mixed media, her semi abstract and representational paintings are rich in colour and texture.
